Eketahuna lies just north of Mt Bruce (National Wildlife Centre)
on Route 2 and is a friendly rural town notable for its Great
Annual Bike Ride held every April with an 85 km, 45 km competitive
ride and a 13 km family ride.
It has a picturesque well-maintained 18 hole
golf course bordered on the western side by the Makakahi River.
The fees are are $10 per round and the course has featured many
times on TV One's The Golf Show.
You can cool off in the town swimming pool
over the summer or enjoy a game of tennis on the astrofurf all
weather court. There is an outdoor bowling Ccub and in the winter,
games of rugby, soccer and hockey are played at the sports ground.
Follow the Heritage trail or check out the
Eketahuna Museum and Historic Buildings in town. If your're
into hiking or tramping there is a 20 minute cliff walk beside
the Makakahi River and a longer tramp through the Putara Valley
into the Tararua Ranges and Forest Park. This is also a popular
place for hunting fishing and horse trekking.
There are two hotels in town and for a more
personal touch farm/homestays all with reasonable rates. If
you're a camper the camping ground is quiet and set in an attractive
area of native bush on the banks of the Makakahi River.

store with a full range of hardware, and service station and
a tearooms
